Digital painting combined with traditional painting

I have finally discovered digital painting in Photoshop. idrawgirls.com has some great digital painting tutorials. The technique is so painterly, no airbrushing. It's a much more organic approach.

Illuminated Icons

This is a new collection of work called Illuminated Icons. I saw an exhibit at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles years ago on the Illuminated Manuscripts. The work was exquisite. The wealth of images and the attention to detail on such a small scale was truly humbling. I am attempting to recreate some of these images in this group of work incorporating watercolor, mixed media, and digital media. This is one of the images so far. It won't take me long to start incorporating fabric, stitching in my own style. Will be posting me....stay tuned.

Queen City Angel canvas bags

Beth Swanson of Olde Tyme Marketplace passed on this great idea of combining my work to ruffled canvas bags. I think they are quite pretty. Inside each bag contains a letter that Queen Charlotte wrote to her brother. You can find these bags at Green With Envy in Charlotte NC. I will also be at the All Arts Market in NODA, Charlotte,
Dec 15 and 16. They will make fabulous xmas gifts!

Queen City Angels- A tribute to Queen Charlotte and our Queen City, Charlotte, NC

I have lived in Charlotte NC. for a year now. Charlotte was named in the honor of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Germany. I came across some letters she wrote her brother during the Revolutionary War. These letters are part of the backgrounds of this collection.
